Mikael Porath Petersen
Doctor of Chiropractic
Mikael decided chiropractic was his future after suffering a severe back injury. He graduated from the Anglo European College of Chiropractic in 1997 and immediately started working with professional athletes, including the Danish National Football team. Mikael is always prepared to be challenged, one of his latests latest projects is a Olympic swimmer with a nerve irritation, which reduces her muscle strength. Mikael is convinces that she will soon be on the podium.
Sports Chiropractic Demonstrated the Potential
Working with such an array of professional athletes made Mikael realise that chiropractic doesn’t simply relieve pain and restore nerve function, it is also an incredible catalyst that allows the body to express its true potential once the spine is free from nerve interference.
The last decade has seen Mikael’s career focus on the general public, especially postural improvements and the effect of gait/foot mechanics on spinal function. Mikael truly loves his profession and when asked what he would do if he had not become a chiropractor, says “I would be a chiropractor.”
Education is Key to Community Health
Mikael gives regular health talks to companies, schools, sports clubs and special interest groups throughout London, in addition to his weekly Posture and Health talks at the clinic. “I find” he says, “that education is the most important part of my job as a chiropractor. We are creating so many health problems for ourselves, many of which can be prevented or at least partly prevented by a slight change in lifestyle.”
Mikael is often complimented for his bedside manner, which he explains is a result from working weekends for two years in his youth as a nurse at an old peoples’ home in Denmark. Today, Mikael continues to travel the world attending seminars given by leading chiropractic researchers and practitioners.
Mikael lives by the motto that the best doctor of chiropractic knows what to do, how to do it and why to do it.

He was also selected as lead physio for the Blue Bulls Super 15 rugby team for two years during this time. He then decided to travel and arrived in the UK in early 2005.
Pierre applies his knowledge to better understand how patients injure themselves, and seeks out ways to prevent related issues. Pierre shares his experience and knowledge as he believes that educating the patient creates a better partnership for the healing process.
Doctor of Chiropractic
Lam was born in Hong Kong and moved to the UK in 1997. He was still very young then, so did a large amount of his growing up and studying here. From an early age, Lam was inspired by the human body and how it works. This passion lead him to pursue a Masters in chiropractic, which he gained in 2010 from the Welsh Institute of Chiropractic.
He takes a holistic approach to health and wellbeing and is very strong believer in good diet, exercise and making healthy lifestyle choices.
Lam enjoys a wide range of physical activities in his spare time, including rock climbing, mountain biking and HIIT weight training. He also used to compete at regional level at indoor volleyball in Essex where he grew up.
Since qualifying, Lam has been practicing in clinics spanning the London, Berkshire and Surrey areas. This year he is looking forward to delivering regular health events within his local community to raise awareness of the importance of good spinal and nervous system health. During his spare time Michelson will be furthering his studies in postural correction and rehabilitation.
Originally from Ireland, James began his further education at the University of Limerick studying exercise for health and personal training. He worked closely with the general public and in professional sport as a strength and conditioning coach for Cork City Football Club. After a number of years helping people to reach their body composition and performance goals he decided to expand his interest and experience in injury rehabilitation.
Having relocated to Manchester, James completed a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Sports Rehabilitation from the University of Salford. During this time he gained valuable experience in the NHS as well as working with the players at Preston North End FC. Additionally, he continued to work with individuals combining injury rehabilitation and personal training in Manchester’s city centre.
James went on to study a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Physiotherapy, awarded by Brunel University in London. Combining acute physio skills with an extensive knowledge of exercise, James creates comprehensive individualised rehabilitation plans to help clients reach their goals. Whether it’s the ability to sit pain free at their desk, play with their children or compete at the highest levels of their sport, James will work tirelessly to achieve the patient’s desired result.
James believes educating and helping individuals to understand the source and contributors of their pain is a vital part of the rehabilitation process. He aims to provide all clients with the knowledge and tools they need to improve their quality of life now and into the future.
As a recent recruit to the organisation, James has joined Optimal Spine following a period of working in the private sector across south London as a musculoskeletal physiotherapist. He is also part of the medical team at Millwall Football Club.
Sport Rehabilitation Therapist
The newest member of the Optimal Spine team, Joe has a keen interest in all aspects of sporting injury therapy and rehabilitation. He is already proving to be a very popular member of the team with both clients and staff alike, and works hard to offer a first rate service to anyone in need.
Having graduated from the University of the West of England in BSc (Hons) Sports Rehabilitation in July 2019, Joe is also a fully qualified member of BASRaT. He is now looking to build his career in the prevention and treatment of injuries using a holistic approach and a broad range of individually tailored solutions.
Joe specialises in body strength and conditioning, as well as how strength therapy is used alongside rehabilitation to regain optimal health and performance. A keen rugby player himself, Joe encountered a number of injuries whilst playing at youth level and felt that there were gaps in the types of appropriate care available at that time. This sparked his desire to provide the highest quality, bespoke rehabilitation solutions to both athletes and the general public alike.
When it comes to hands-on experience, before joining us Joe spent time working with several elite rugby teams including Bath Rugby, London Irish and Samoa 7’s. He understands the importance of a healthy approach to fitness and exercise, promoting the prevention of injuries before they occur, as well as administering a variety of treatments as necessary.
