Mikael Porath Petersen
Doctor of Chiropractic
Mikael decided chiropractic was his future after suffering a severe back injury. He graduated from the Anglo European College of Chiropractic in 1997 and immediately started working with professional athletes, including the Danish National Football team. Mikael is always prepared to be challenged, one of his latests latest projects is a Olympic swimmer with a nerve irritation, which reduces her muscle strength. Mikael is convinces that she will soon be on the podium.
Sports Chiropractic Demonstrated the Potential
Working with such an array of professional athletes made Mikael realise that chiropractic doesn’t simply relieve pain and restore nerve function, it is also an incredible catalyst that allows the body to express its true potential once the spine is free from nerve interference.
The last decade has seen Mikael’s career focus on the general public, especially postural improvements and the effect of gait/foot mechanics on spinal function. Mikael truly loves his profession and when asked what he would do if he had not become a chiropractor, says “I would be a chiropractor.”
Education is Key to Community Health
Mikael gives regular health talks to companies, schools, sports clubs and special interest groups throughout London, in addition to his weekly Posture and Health talks at the clinic. “I find” he says, “that education is the most important part of my job as a chiropractor. We are creating so many health problems for ourselves, many of which can be prevented or at least partly prevented by a slight change in lifestyle.”
Mikael is often complimented for his bedside manner, which he explains is a result from working weekends for two years in his youth as a nurse at an old peoples’ home in Denmark. Today, Mikael continues to travel the world attending seminars given by leading chiropractic researchers and practitioners.
Mikael lives by the motto that the best doctor of chiropractic knows what to do, how to do it and why to do it.
Pierre Van Dyke
Pierre received his formal education in South Africa, in Pretoria, and completed an Honours degree in Physiotherapy in 2000. After qualifying Pierre ran his own clinic in Pretoria for four years where he specialized in sports injuries and musculoskeletal problems. He was also selected as lead physio for the Blue Bulls Super 15 rugby team for two years during this time. He then decided to travel and arrived in the UK in early 2005.
Pierre applies his knowledge to better understand how patients injure themselves, and seeks out ways to prevent related issues. Pierre shares his experience and knowledge as he believes that educating the patient creates a better partnership for the healing process.
Performance and Rehabilitation Coach
Samuel graduated from St. Mary’s University in Sport Rehabilitation (Honors), in 2015. Where he gained vital knowledge in functional rehabilitation exercises and sports massage. Samuel is also keen runner, competing at national event in 800m and competing in various events up to Half Marathons.
training pre-professional programme, I sustained severe patellar tendinitis to the
extent that I had to stop dancing completely for over 18 months. When I started
working with Samuel I had more or less given up hope: I had worked with more than
half a dozen highly recommended physiotherapists, sports science majors,
acupuncturists and chiropractors – all of whom gave up on my case. I worked with
Samuel both as my rehabilitation specialist and as my sports massage therapist and
less than two months after I started treatment with him I successfully re-auditioned
and was accepted into the Conservatoire.
I continue to see Samuel on a weekly basis – mostly for massage though he regularly
advises me of new exercises to add into my daily practice. He is constantly thinking
of new ways to better approach my healing and has really spent a lot of time making
exercises more dance specific. Samuel consistently goes over and beyond the call of
duty to make sure my body works optimally; with the intensity of the program I am
doing, there is always an area of me that has developed a restriction by the time a
week has passed and without fail I leave him feeling like I have a new body.
What ever your problem, whether you struggle with posture, tightness or stress or if
you are a high class athlete looking to improve your game, Samuel is an excellent
Sport Rehabilitation Therapist
Originally from Ireland, Scott is a BASRaT certified sports rehabilitation therapist. Indeed, sport has always played a huge part in his life, having competed at a high level in hockey in particular. This has provided him with a good understanding of the importance of keeping your body in peak condition and injury free. It’s also the reason he has chosen to work in this field.
Unfortunately, in 2010 Scott suffered an injury that changed his sporting life and kept him out of the game for four years. Although it is something he will never fully recovered from, it has given him the drive to help ensure other people don’t go through a similar experience. He now works tirelessly in assisting people with their lives post injury.
Scott completed his Master’s degree in Sports Rehabilitation at St. Mary’s University in Twickenham. During this time he gained a wealth of experience in clinical environments as well as in a wide variety of sports, including rugby, football, GAA and athletics. Treating everyone from the general public to professional athletes, some of whom went on to compete at the London 2017 World Athletics Championships, he is very proud to offer the very best treatment to anyone who requires it.
With 5 years’ experience working as a musculoskeletal therapist, Scott now specialises in injury assessment, deep tissue/sports massage, dry needling and rehabilitation. However, these techniques are not solely reserved for sports-related injuries but also tightness in the neck, shoulder pains, postural tensions and tensions due to office work. All of these can benefit hugely from rehabilitation treatment.
Scott thoroughly enjoys his work and believes in a multi-faceted approach to make sure all of his patients receive the best outcomes possible. Having worked at Optimal Spine and Sports Dimensions for over a year, he has gained a wealth of experience in clinical environments. He is also very popular with both clients and staff members alike.
Sport Rehabilitation Therapist
Originally from the Isle of Wight, Sabrina is an SST certified Sports Therapist having completed her Sports Therapy degree at Chichester University. Fascinated by the body’s capacity to heal itself given the right treatment and exercise, she is also a firm believer in muscle memory and teaching people to look after their bodies correctly to reduce injury.
Having ice skated since a young age, Sabrina has always been interested in sports and exercise. She is now a synchronised ice skater, proudly competing in British and International competitions including the Junior World Championships. Her skills in skating alongside fifteen other individuals, creating patterns and movements on the ice, has given her first-hand experience in understanding muscle function. Sabrina fully appreciates the importance of being fit and healthy but most importantly making sure one’s body operates at its maximum potential. She has a keen interest in chronic pain and understanding how and why injuries don’t always heal properly, having previously suffered an injury herself. Using different methods to re-start the healing process and getting individuals back to full health is what truly drives her.
During her time in practice, Sabrina has treated both working individuals and athletes. This helped her gain valuable skills in injury assessment, sports massage, electrotherapy, neuromusculoskeletal manual therapy, rehabilitation and K taping.
Sabrina believes that everyone can learn more about their bodies – even the professionals! She strongly advocates knowing how to use the body in the correct way and discovering individual weaknesses before they become a major problem. She loves being a Sports Therapist and wishes to continue learning more about sports injuries, treatments and rehabilitation going forward.
Sport Rehabilitation Therapist
The newest member of the Optimal Spine team, Joe has a keen interest in all aspects of sporting injury therapy and rehabilitation. He is already proving to be a very popular member of the team with both clients and staff alike, and works hard to offer a first rate service to anyone in need.
Having graduated from the University of the West of England in BSc (Hons) Sports Rehabilitation in July 2019, Joe is also a fully qualified member of BASRaT. He is now looking to build his career in the prevention and treatment of injuries using a holistic approach and a broad range of individually tailored solutions.
Joe specialises in body strength and conditioning, as well as how strength therapy is used alongside rehabilitation to regain optimal health and performance. A keen rugby player himself, Joe encountered a number of injuries whilst playing at youth level and felt that there were gaps in the types of appropriate care available at that time. This sparked his desire to provide the highest quality, bespoke rehabilitation solutions to both athletes and the general public alike.
When it comes to hands-on experience, before joining us Joe spent time working with several elite rugby teams including Bath Rugby, London Irish and Samoa 7’s. He understands the importance of a healthy approach to fitness and exercise, promoting the prevention of injuries before they occur, as well as administering a variety of treatments as necessary.
