New Patient

Thank you for choosing Optimal Spine & Sports Dimensions© for your wellness needs. Our office prides itself on pinpointing the root cause of pain and discomfort in order to create a custom treatment plan that will yield maximum results. Here are the three phases of care:

Phase 1
Relief Care

During this phase, what we will try to do is give you relief and make you feel better. Depending on your age, condition, and lifestyle, repeated office visits over a couple of weeks may be needed to reduce or eliminate your symptoms. Once this treatment regime has been completed a re-examination will be performed to objectively evaluate your progress.

Phase 2
Corrective Care

Muscle and other soft tissue damage are often still there, after your original symptoms have improved. This phase of corrective care will stabilize the improvement achieved and promote more long-term healing. Visit frequency will be reduced and you will be encouraged to supplement your care with exercises or other self-care procedures. With your ache and pain gone, more complete healing can occur. Stopping care now may risk a relapse.

Phase 3
Supportive Care

You have now reached maximum improvement and periodic chiropractic “check-ups” will be recommended. These wellness visits can detect and help correct new problems before they become serious. Many health-conscious adults choose this type of care for themselves and their children. Like other preventative measures, being ahead of relapses and choosing wellness care can save time and money by helping you stay well.

First Visit

What to Wear? There are no special clothing requirements. During your Initial Consultation, you will be asked to remove your outer garments and provided with a gown (in order for the practitioner to perform a full examination).

What Happens at My First Consultation? Your initial consultation takes about 45 minutes and allows us to obtain the information we need in order to make a diagnosis of any complaints and explore any imbalances in detail. We examine you both physically and neurologically and relate this information to your symptoms. This gives us a much deeper understanding of your condition and how it affects you and other aspects of your health and allows us to direct you to the most appropriate practitioner first time around.

Consultation Format

1. Education: At all times we aim to increase the knowledge and understanding you have of your own body, this is especially true at your first consultation. To begin with you will be ‘walked through’ an introduction to your spine and nervous system, subluxations and what you can expect from your practitioner. Even if you have some familiarity with the world of spinal care to begin with the feedback we receive is that this process is enlightening and appreciated.

2. Case History: Your previous medical history is covered in detail (similar in scope to a medical doctors general examination) and information is taken relevant to your injury i.e. site of discomfort, aggravating and relieving factors.

3. Orthopedic and Neurological Examination: This is an assessment of the positions which aggravate your complaint including range of movement, palpation, muscle tests and provocative manoeuvres designed to stimulate a measurable response. This will highlight the severity of the complaint and the structures involved. A neurological examination includes an assessment of the function of the nerves in the spine or extremities (arms and legs) which will deduce the area of possible neural involvement.

4. X-rays: These are taken only if medically necessary. All our clinics are equipped with state of the art digital X-Ray equipment which create images displayed on plasma screens for instant review. Often they assist in ruling out non-mechanical causes of pain such as an infection or fracture. Observing the spine in a weight-bearing posture as used during X-ray provides us with information regarding any areas of the spine that are under stress on a day to day basis which assists in ascertaining the degree of degeneration. If X-Rays are taken these are then transmitted to a specialist centre for review prior to a Report of Findings.

5. Treatment: You will usually not receive a treatment at the first consultation unless there is an urgent requirement. An array of techniques may be used depending on the directed treatment. If it is felt that treatment is not appropriate or further investigations are required, patients are referred onto the relevant healthcare professional.

What Can I Expect at My Second Visit? Report of Findings: upon completion of the examination, any complaints and imbalances are diagnosed and explored in detail with your practitioner. Appropriate treatment plans are discussed and these may involve different modalities. If x-rays have been taken, these will be reviewed. Commonly patients have numerous questions and the aim of this visit is to have those answered as well as ensuring the patient fully understands their complaint. A treatment plan will be laid out from acute care through to rehabilitation and maintenance along with a time frame for recovery. Once the practitioner is confident the patient has a full understanding of their condition, treatment will be given.

Report of Findings

We’ll spend about 15 minutes reviewing our findings with you and offering answers to the four questions most patients have:

• What’s wrong?
• Can chiropractic help?
• How long will it take?
• How much will it cost?

Based on our findings, we’ll make recommendations and you’ll be presented with some choices (referral required for some options):

• Proceed with chiropractic care
• Seek the opinion of another practitioner
• Ignore the problem hoping it will resolve
• Medication to reduce symptoms
• Physical therapy
• Surgical intervention

Please be aware that not all Chiropractors are registered with same insurance providers. When booking your appointment, please make sure that you make the clinic assistant aware if you intend to claim for your treatment via your insurance provider.

Office Policies

  • It is your responsibility to call our office if you will be more than 10 minutes early or late. This is the only way to stay on track with your healing schedule.
  • If you are sick, it is especially important to make your visit. The adjustment will help boost your immune system by 200%.
  • If you miss a visit for any reason, make it up within 24 hours. When you miss a visit without making it up, you can reverse your progress by one week.
  • If you miss 3 visits without calling to reschedule, we will unfortunately have to dismiss you from care.

Financial Details

  • If you do not complete your care or you are dismissed from care, you would only be charged for the care you received and any used home equipment, thus voiding your care plan discount. The retail cost per visit would be applied to all used visits. Any outstanding fees would be due at that time. If a credit is owed, we will finalize your reimbursement within 7 days.

Family Care

  • We extend our FREE chiropractic consultation offer to your immediate family members within the next two weeks
  • We have time set aside on the schedule for your convenience.
  • We will always ask for referrals and “Who do you know that we can help?” in regards to care in our office. We are on a mission to transform our community, and we can’t do it without your help.

During Your Visit

    • We encourage you not to bring your cell phones to the office and use this time to disconnect, relax and heal. If you choose to bring your cell phones with you, we recommend listening to meditation or your favorite book with headphones.
    • If your children are under care or you bring them into the office, please make sure to keep them with you at all times, for their safety. Our office and traction equipment are not child-proof.
